The State Bank of India (SBI) recently informed its customers on Twitter that it was important for them to link their bank savings account with their Aadhaar card if they wanted to receive government subsidies via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). It should be noted that seeding Aadhaar with the SBI account is required only for the beneficiaries receiving subsidies via the DBT. According to a Supreme Court ruling, it is otherwise not mandatory for the bank customers to link their Aadhaar number with their bank account.
This is what the SBI said in its tweet: “We would like to inform our customers that Aadhaar Card seeding is mandatory for those desirous of receiving any benefit or subsidy from Govt. of India through Direct Benefit Transfer.”
