BJP state functionaries told ET the party decided to scan the Twitter and Facebook handles of prospective candidates to get a complete picture of their social acceptance.
“A person’s nature and character is revealed in his social media, and one can figure out his commitment towards ideology, his associations and the place he commands in society,” said Yagnesh Dave, BJP’s newly-appointed state media coordinator.
Dave explained that the enrolling of page committee members would show how much trust the candidate enjoyed because “people rarely share personal details including photos other than for job or marriage”.
