Adani Group Says It Will Bid For 5G Spectrum For Private Networks

The Adani Group has said that it does not plan to enter consumer communications but is looking to acquire 5G spectrum to offer private network services.

“As India prepares to roll out next generation 5G services though this auction, we are one of the many applicants participating in the open bidding process,” a group statement said.

The 5G spectrum, if awarded, will be used to provide private network solutions along with enhanced cyber security in airport, ports & logistics, power generation, transmission, distribution, and various manufacturing operations, the statement added.

The high-speed 5G data will also be used for its own digital platform that includes super apps, edge data centres, and industry command and control centres, it said

“Also, if we are awarded 5G spectrum in the open bidding, it will also align with our recent announcement of significantly increasing the Adani Foundation’s investments in Education, Healthcare and Skill Development in rural areas, each of which stands to benefit from 5G technology,” said the statement.

Billionaire Gautam Adani-led group is planning a surprise entry into the race to acquire telecom spectrum, the PTI had reported on Friday night. Along with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Vodafone Idea Ltd., the fourth applicant is Adani Group.

Friday was the last day of submitting applications to participate in 5G spectrum auctions that start on July 26.
