FBI chief: no evidence of ‘fake Trump protesters’ at Capitol riot

The director of the FBI said on Tuesday there was no evidence that the attack on the US Capitol was carried out by “fake Trump protesters”, Antifa activists or Black Lives Matter supporters, rejecting theories put forward by some Republicans.

In his first public testimony since the US Capitol was stormed on January 6, FBI director Christopher Wray was pressed by members of the Senate judiciary committee on the narrative put forward by some Trump supporters and Republicans, including senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin, who suggested that “provocateurs” and “fake Trump supporters” were behind the deadly riots

When asked if the rioters who “organised, planned and carried out” the attack were potentially members of antifa, the anti-fascist movement, or Black Lives Matter, Wray replied: “We have seen no evidence to that effect.”
