India’s coronavirus outbreak showed signs of slowing down as the country has reported less than 50,000 daily cases for a week now. Meanwhile, the daily death toll fell to a near four-month-low.
India added over 46,963 new cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to 81.8 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 1. This includes over 1.22 lakh deaths and 7.49 lakh patients who have recovered.
The slower pace of daily infections and an improved recovery rate have led to a decline in active cases. It fell below the 6-lakh mark, on Friday, for the first time since Aug. 6 after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. Active cases now account for less than 8% of the total caseload.
