Tally Tops 87 Lakh With Nearly 45,000 New Cases

Coronavirus cases continue to rise and hit new milestones in India amid the largest festive season that culminates over the weekend with Diwali. It remains to be seen if concerns of another Covid-19 wave materialises after crowds thronged markets to prepare for the festivities.

India added nearly 45,000 fresh cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 87.3 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 13.

Daily additions have remained below 50,000 for six consecutive days now, keeping active cases below the 5-lakh mark for the third straight day. Active cases had climbed above 10 lakh in mid-September. Naturally, the daily recoveries have also declined but have managed to remain higher than fresh cases.
