In 2016, the government of India announced demonetisation, which made Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes invalid. While many struggled to get old notes exchanged for the newly introduced notes – there was another problem that came along with it.
Visually impaired people, who were used to identifying the older currencies, had to learn and adjust to understanding the new notes which were of different sizes. Some were used to identifying higher denominations with their length, and some who were partially blind were identifying them based on colour.
But, the new ones are of different sizes, patterns and colours.
