Amid nationwide protests, Modi says NDA made history in increasing MSP for farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government has created history with its announcement of minimum support price for farmers. The MSP is the rate at which the government purchases crops from farmers and is based on a calculation of at least one and a half times the cost of production.

On Monday, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had told the Lok Sabha that the Cabinet has approved MSP hikes for six crops, ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 300.

Modi made the comments during the celebrations of the Foundation Day of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana via video conferencing. Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also attended the event.
