Biden conveys to Xi concerns over China’s unfair economic practices, assertive actions

Washington, Feb 11: US President Joe Biden has expressed his “fundamental concerns” about China’s coercive and unfair economic practices, its crackdown in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang and increasingly assertive actions in the region, as he spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for the first time since taking office.

The phone call between the two leaders came hours after the Pentagon announced a task force on China. This was the first phone call between the two leaders after Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.

“Last night I was on the phone for two straight hours with Xi Jinping.
