Delta plus not a variant of concern for WHO at present, says chief scientist

World Health Organization Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan on Thursday said that the Delta plus strain of Covid-19 was not a variant of concern for the global health agency presently.

Pharmaceutical company Cadila Healthcare’s Managing Director Sharvil Patel said the company expected to produce one crore vaccine doses per month from August onwards and five crore doses by December this year. Patel said the company’s target was to produce 10 crore vaccine doses in a year.

Earlier on Thursday, the company confirmed applying to the Drug Controller General of India for emergency use authorisation of its Covid-19 vaccine in India.

India recorded 48,786 new coronavirus cases and 1,005 deaths on Thursday morning in a span of 24 hours, data from the Union health ministry showed.
