Joe Root opts to bat, Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar in

Joe Root won the toss and chose to bat against India in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. This is the first international series that is been played in India amidst the coronavirus pandemic. India made a couple of changes as well with Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem being three spinners in the side in addition to Ravichandran Ashwin. Ishant Sharma returned to the Indian side after missing the Australia series while Jasprit Bumrah will play his first home Test after success in Australia, South Africa, England and the West Indies.

In the pre-match press conference, Joe Root said India’s series win in Australia is being touted as an inspiration. England is without Zak Crawley suffering a freak accident and Ollie Pope has been included in the team.
