Police procedurals and investigative thrillers are not new to Malayalam cinema, especially with some recent hits such as Kannur Squad and Thalavan, but where Oru Anweshanathinte Thudakkam sets itself apart from the others is through its sheer narrative. With a run-time that runs nearly three hours, the film meanders into a few sub-plots that may seem unnecessary in the beginning, but the screenplay has managed to neatly tie them all together, thus delivering a satisfactory payout for the viewer in the end. However, this long runtime is also what works against this film. Even though the narrative begins with some taut story-telling, the inclusion of a plethora of characters and their screentime wobbles on, and that could end up being quite weary for the viewer.
