Rourkela: Two Deputy General Managers (DGMs) of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been suspended in connection with the gas leak mishap that claimed four lives on Wednesday.
The suspended officials are N Das, the DGM of Coal Chemical Department and G Barik, the DGM of Energy Management Department. After a preliminary investigation, the two officials were found guilty of dereliction of duty, sources said.
Following the mishap, the plant authorities have taken a string of measures including job to one family member of each deceased. The authorities have also directed the third party vendor who had employed the contractual employees in the plant to provide compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the families of each deceased.
The RSP has made provisions of insurance of Rs 10 lakh for both regular and contractual employees of the PSU. Besides, a high-level committee has also been formed in the RSP to avoid such mishaps in future, the plant authorities said.
