The Flying Sikh’s greatest victories and notable milestones

Milkha Singh, who is popularly known as ‘The Flying Sikh’, dies on Friday (June 19). He was 91. Milkha Singh was without doubt one of India’s greatest track and field sprinters who has brought several laurels for India on numerous occasions. Milkha Singh’s journey was full of hardships and it is no less than a heroic tale. 

Milkha Singh was born in 1929 and he was orphaned during the partition. Milkha Singh faced huge tragedy at a young age as his parents, two sisters and a brother were killed during the partition.

After coming to India as a result of partition, Milkha Singh joined the Indian Army and his life changed forever after this.

1958 Asian Games – Milkha Singh represented India in 1958 Tokyo Asian Games where he competed in the 200 meters and 400 meters track race. Milkha Singh won gold in the events and set new records.
