‘Verdict vindicates beliefs,’ says LK Advani; Muslim leaders, Left criticise order

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani, who was on Wednesday acquitted of conspiracy charges in the nearly three-decades-old criminal case related to the Babri Masjid demolition along with 31 others, said that the judgement “vindicated” his and the saffron party’s commitment towards the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Advani’s party colleagues Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and Kalyan Singh were among those accused of criminal conspiracy by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in Lucknow. Several prominent members of the BJP celebrated the verdict.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the judgement by the Special Court in the Babri Masjid demolition case,” Advani was quoted as saying by ANI. “The judgement vindicates my personal and BJP’s belief and commitment toward the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.”
