Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) say 37.8% dip in Employment rate in the month of October


Since May 2020 after the relaxation in the lockdown induced by the deadly coronavirus employment in the month of October 2020 fell for the first time. In spite of demand of Human resources the employment in the country fell by 0.55 million in October. The previous months reports 3.16 crore employment in May, 6.32 crore in June, 1.53 crore in July, and the growth continues till September 2020. With increase in demand for employment, even the small number in surprised the market. The count of the unemployed who was willing to work increased by 1.2 crore in October. 

“October 2020 is the first month since the recovery began in May that has recorded a fall in employment,” said the CMIE in its weekly analysis of the labour market for the week ended November 1. “This fall in employment came when demand for employment was rising.
