IIT Bombay suicide case: IITs implement preventive measures for students’ mental health in the wake of the suicide case.


To discuss the recent suicide case, the parliamentary standing committee for the welfare of SC/ST has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday .

After a student at IIT Bombay committed himself, other Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are taking preventative action. These actions include lessening the workload on the curriculum and establishing mental wellness centres, as well as counselling and mentorship for students with poor grades and backlogs.

The sudden suicide of an IIT Bombay student following allegations of caste prejudice has brought attention back to the demanding coursework and rivalry at the esteemed institutions. Subhasis Chaudhuri, the director of IIT Bombay, has stated that the university is attempting to modify its undergraduate curriculum to make it “more relevant and motivating to students, and to relive stress.
