Gender-specific counselling may be a crucial weapon in combating gender disparity in homes, education and the workforce.
Gender encompasses socially constructed and culturally based roles of men and women with a view to understanding how unequally power is distributed in society. This same distribution of power massively shapes and operates society, yet gender issues rarely find expression in the mainstream counselling discourse in the Indian context.
India needs to outgrow these gender-specified professions, roles, and responsibilities to attain societal equilibrium.
