The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has unveiled a significant change to the Class 12 board exams by introducing a new evaluation model. This model will now factor in students’ performance from Classes 9 to 11, alongside incorporating vocational and skill-based training into their assessments.
The new evaluation approach, developed by NCERT’s Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH), redefines the weightage of marks from previous years. According to this model, Class 12 board exam scores will be based on 15% from Class 9, 20% from Class 10, 25% from Class 11, and 40% from Class 12 itself.
The PARAKH report, named ‘Establishing Equivalence across Education Boards,’ recommends using cumulative performance data from Classes 9 through 11 to determine Class 12 results.
