Brendon McCullum from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) called his brilliant performance during the first-ever IPL match in 2008 a life-changing event.
McCullum bowled an unchallenged 158 off 73 balls while playing for the Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first match of IPL 2008. There were ten fours and 13 sixes in this excellent knock in the debut issue of the T20 league.
KKR has recently released highlights from a documentary about their coach Brendan McCullum. He spoke about his path in the IPL in the clips. He admitted: “It’s changed my life, the opportunities that I have been given at KKR. And I think back to the first-ever IPL game. My life changed that night.”
“This is something I believe in, that leaders should have a wishbone; they should have a backbone; they should have a funny bone,” McCullum shared his unique thoughts on leadership.
Moreover, the legendary Kiwi player helped New Zealand get to the World Cup final for the first time in 2015. Detailed information is described on many sites.
Brendon McCullum also played in such teams as Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings as a player in the IPL. At the end of his career, his total record as a player had a strike rate of 131.74 with 2880 runs in 109 matches, hitting two hundreds and 13 fifties.
Brendon McCullum’s changed the face of cricket in New Zealand
The wicketkeeper-batsman of KKR Dinesh Karthik stressed McCullum’s role in keeping the players in the right direction and guiding the franchise in the documentary.
“There couldn’t have been a better choice than Brendon McCullum going around in the world right now. He is a leader who has changed the face of the game for New Zealand,” Karthik added.
KKR’s performance in the first half of IPL 2021 dissatisfied McCullum. The team has played seven matches and won only two of them before the COVID-19 outbreak. Thus, the franchise is seventh in the points table. The coach pushed his players to show more confidence and courage in their performance.
The next match for KKR against RCB will take place on September 20 in Abu Dhabi. It will become the start of the UAE stage of IPL 2021.
