NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday indicated that it’s ready to “relax” quarantine rules for international athletes to resume sports competitions in India amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Sports minister Kiren Rijiju informed that the government would do all for the comfort of athletes arriving in the country for international meets so that they don’t have to spend long periods in quarantine.
“We will relax them (quarantine rules) for players. We will provide them all kinds of facilities so that the players don’t suffer or have to face long quarantine time,” Rijiju told a select group of media on the sidelines of the inauguration of a residential hostel in the premises of the Dr. Karni Singh shooting range on Thursday. The facility, with the 162-bed hostel, has an air conditioned dining area. A total of Rs 12.26 crore was spent to build the hostel, stated a press release from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
