Ghislaine Maxwell makes third bid to be freed from jail

Ghislaine Maxwell has hatched a new legal plan that could see her released from jail.

The former girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has offered to give up her French and UK passports in exchange for bail.

Maxwell is currently in jail awaiting trial set for July, after she was arrested in 2020 and charged with six criminal counts including enticing a minor.

In a new court filing, her lawyers claimed Maxwell has no intention to leave the US, the BBC reports.

The filing states Maxwell, now 59, is willing to give up her claims to foreign citizenship to “eliminate any opportunity for her to seek refuge in those countries”.

Her legal team further proposed Maxwell and her husband’s joint assets could be placed in a monitored account, stopping her from being able to use the cash to flee.

The bid is Maxwell’s third attempt to be granted bail since she was arrested last year.
