Joe Biden is making moves to stop the American government using a “dehumanising” term as part of his radical overhaul of immigration laws.
He wants to put an end to the government calling US immigrants “aliens”. If his new bill is passed, it would remove the word from US immigration laws, replacing it with the term “noncitizen.”
The term, “illegal alien” has long been used in US immigration laws despite condemnation from some – who see it as dehumanising .
Mr Biden’s move is intended to recognise America as “a nation of immigrants,” according to a summary of the bill released by the new administration.
