Uber Hikes London Prices 10% To Draw Back Drivers

Uber will increase its fares by 10% in London from today in a bid to draw back drivers to the ride-hailing platform. The price rise is the first since 2017 and was meant to tackle high demand and a shortage of drivers, according to The Evening Standard

Uber said that the number of registered drivers had not changed significantly since the start of the pandemic but many have opted to work across several competing ride-hailing apps like Bolt, or Kapten, or now focus on food delivery. That has led to complaints from passengers about long waits, surge pricing and waves of cancellations with drivers cherry-picking fares.   

“We’re making these changes to help provide a better rider experience, by signing up more drivers to meet the growing demand,” an Uber spokesperson said via email.
